Default Best place to live in NYC for lesbian couple w/kids?

Hi all....my partner and I currently live on LI, and looking to move somewhere that is more open minded and accepting of non-traditional families like ours. If you have any suggestions of places to move to in NYC/ 5 boros, we'd really appreciate it.

Almost anywhere in Manhattan is very gay-friendly, especially the Lower east Side ("L.E.S.", get it???) and the Village, both East & West...

Hell, MOST of NYC is pretty liberal-minded, actually.... you should have no trouble finding friendly confines...

Park Slope. Lots of lesbians in the neighborhood, and lots of familes - many of which are headed by two male or two female partners. It's generally a nice area and is fairly well-connected to Manhattan by subway.

She wouldn't make it out alive. Dominicans are incredibly religous people (DR is 95% Roman Catholic) who are very family oriented and look down on that lifestyle. Trust me, not just the kids that would ridicule, but alot of the adults would voice their disgust.

Chelsea on the other hand is very gay friendly.

I'd also throw CPW, the UWS, and SoHo into the mix, depending upon budget.

Do you need good public schools? If so, that will tend to limit the areas a little bit more, since you need to search by school.

Actually, supermario, gay couples appear the be bypassing northern Manhattan and going straight to the Bronx.
Gay Families Find the Bronx Is a Place to Call Home

To the OP- there are many gay-friendly areas. What is your budget?

That's good advice. There are religious enclaves of various denominations that may not be as accepting of non-traditional families in each of the boroughs. That's why the earlier post that made it seem that all of NYC is open and accepting is a little misleading. While many Manhattan areas are progressive, the dynamics shift a little once you get into the outer boroughs.

Staten Island is also probably not what you're looking for, since I don't know that you would find too many families with the same demographic make-up.

Ok just because they move there does not make it a gay friendly area.

Who knows the ridicule they recieve and not even a word has to be said, you know when you are not wanted. Alot of these hispanic families would gossip, restaraunts wouldn't serve, nobody would hold the door for you, or even engage in a simple conversation. Why move to Uptown and the Bronx when most likely you are going to be one of a handful of gay couples there.....when you could move to the Village, Williamsburg, Chelsea, L.E.S etc and fit right in.

Washington Heights and The Bronx gay friendly? Please. Not in a million years.

Honestly I have no idea if WH and the Bronx are gay friendly or not, but I will say that your logic (hispanic families won't accept gays) doesn't hold true in Jackson Heights, which is heavily hispanic and also heavily gay. How do you explain that one?
