N Riverdale is up by 254th-263 streets; SD/Kappock is down by 225th street, the difference is about 1.5 miles so the SD/kappock Location is closer to Leb than N Riverdale
I currently work in the innercity in St. Paul with underserved populations...
I really did not think this discussion would deteriorate into criticism of my motives for working in the Bronx. SPARE ME, I have beene focused on serving underserveed population my whole career. Maybe I am Midwest and naive, but my heart is in the right place. All I wanted to know was if I was OK...are all NYCers so judgemental!?

Not all NYers are judgmental, not by a long shot. And, I think it's admirable that you have chosen to work with under served populations in your profession. No doubt you will enjoy Riverdale and can make a difference in the work that you do in the Bronx.
Your can take the same bus you were planning, the Bx1, just take the bus down the hill, the Bx7, and transfer to the Bx1 at 231st ST. That might add about 10 minutes to the trip, less if you can take the limited bus on the Bx1 leg.
I do exactly the same thing--I work with the mentally ill in the NE bronx and live in Riverdale, but I have gotten in the past (not so much in the present now since the economy is so bad) heartless, idiotic comments from past co-workers insinuating why I would go into a low paying field. Duh- duh- duh- duh- duh-Duh!! No one deliberately chooses to go into a low paying field, sometimes you had problems in your past and decided you wanted to help people and when you decided on a career, unglamorous as it is may seem to those stuck up narrow minded idiots, your life turned around and got better, but no, they don't see it that way
I'm not referring to people here on the board, I'm just referring to those 20 somethings who think they're going to make $70,000 out of school and run the world
All I can say is thank god i never married and joined the rat race--I would fail miserably
