NYC needs a sea wall. The city is too sunken and very susceptible to Katrina-like flooding. London already built theirs.

Somewhat related, after Hurricane Sandy, the MTA built walls around the A train corridor through Broad Channel, the walls are made of marine steel. The wall goes 30'-0" below ground on each side of the tracks. It's quite impressive I think. However it partially blocks my view of Jamaica Bay when going home every day now.

I don't HAVE a solution because there IS none.

New Orleans was flooded BECAUSE of a sea wall, aka levee, break. No sea wall, no flood. Most of New Orleans is below sea level. None of New York City is below sea level.

Great, so more eegits will build housing and whatever south of Hylan Blvd, and even greater eegits will move down there.

New Orleans has extensive levees and it still is flooding and or sinking into the seas.

Much of what is south of Hylan never should have been built, but certain politicians and others had to get their taste. Then we all paid post Sandy to buy back property......

Why Staten Island Hospital chose to move out there in first place I don't know. At time of the move there were still plenty of options offering needed open land.

Reading article. What made areas of Staten Island floodable is a lack of a natural barrier. Manmade barriers have already proven to be limited and collapsible. If anybody could remember "Bill Nyne The Science Guy" and his multiple demonstrations explaining the obvious. Another example is what happen back in "1984" with Long Island and how the country club was reinforced but when it came to actual families and their beach front properties they were told to evacuate and was given limited permissions to go and out of their own homes ( which is illegal ).

The Army corps could actually restore the natural barrier but rather then spend money on environmental resources they would rather build a wall/mot....ditto

Another reality to face with New Jersey is that they are protecting their tourist areas and properties simular to the way outside investors have been buying properties in Manhattan.
