Be prepared for a lot of pushing and shoving. Stake out a place one or two days ahead. Hold on to your pocketbook. Have a warm coat. enjoy.

My suggestion? Watch the whole thing on TV in your hotel room. It's a madhouse down there .....

I wanted to say the same thing. For the past two or more decades I've been living just two express subway stops from Times Square and have never gone to that crazy show. Always watch it in my apartment, glass of egg nog, hors d'oeuvres, noise maker at hand. But I do know that some people thrive on that type of on the spot excitement.

Thank you for your reponses so far!

Well the reason I ask was because I can watch the event on Television in L.A. but in that case I would much rather be somewhere on Sunset at a Club or with my family; But how many times does one get to go to New York city during new years eve?

True--I guess it's different if you're from out of town. Nearly 95% of the people there are tourists.

Others have said similar things, but I'll share my experience. I went down to Times Square during New Years about 10 yrs ago and all it was is just a massive crowd in bitter cold with a bunch of drunk people puking around you. The vantage point you get on TV vs when you are down there in the crowd is very different. You don't really get to see much. Also, if you don't set yourself up early in the day, you're not even going to be close to the "ball" drop.

But, I know the hype and all that, and it's something you might want to do one time, but I doubt you'll want to do it again. The only way I would want to do it year after year is if I can get a hotel room within viewing distance of the "ball" drop... which is probably impossible unless you reserve the room years ahead.

Greetings, sjcassin. I noticed you have a lot of threads re: NYC, like what are projects, are street numbers going to be confusing for someone from England, now you ask what borough the world renowned Times Square is in.

Might I suggest that you do a google of NYC or purchase a little leaflet on NYC or review a free map online. That'll help you get an overall orientation of the place that you're interested in and then you may even have some other questions for us.

As usual we remain dedicated to answering any inquiries and sharing our experiences. You have a great day now.
