Default The new kid on the gentrification block?

Who and why?

How far along are Washington Heights,Crown Heights and Bed Stuy in terms of gentrification? Will these gentrify completely, or will they fail (such as what we saw happen in Red Hook).

What do you guys think about this? Will the gentrification movement lose steam due to the looming recession?

Parts of each neighborhood are changing, if that's what you meant.

KingoftheHill..how can anyone on this board tell you that they will gentrify completely or fail? If you know someone that can see the future please talk to them. Regarding the first part of your question, the city remains overwhelmingly people of color @ about 60% of the population, and the majority of them are lower income. The affluent have remained stable and have grown in the past few years, while the white population continues to exit (as they have been for the past 40 years)...although the exodus has slowed (but not stopped) as of late. I suspect if you want the answer to your question, you should personally take a stroll in those neighborhoods and I am very confident that within 10 seconds or less you will know the answer.

Great train access, nice apartments, the chances are pretty good that the old neighborhood will be destroyed completely.
The poor and lower middle class will be pushed out to the suburbs like they already are in European nation such as France and England.

^^ Bushwick is merely "marginal" but Astoria north of 36th is "wilderness"? I guess yuppies who were born and raised in Queens don't count? Astoria seems to be much more of a yuppie magnet among people from Queens and L.I. than any other NYC hood in any borough aside from maybe Forest Hills. Yes, that means you Williamsburg and Park slope, sorry.

What neighborhoods may that definition encompass?

I was wondering.

What will remain of the LES? Will it retain it's grittyness, or will it continue to gentrify (..and sterilize?) ?

Anybody live there? How much would a 1bd apartment cost there?

Personally I don't see Crown Heights or Bed Stuy ever fully gentrifying.

Wash Heights is probably another 15 years away at least.
