Gangs in the schools? Middle/Junior High School?
That's scary.
No, I had not heard of this school. Thanks for the link. I hope things continue to improve.

I was a little surprised that a Jr. High could be so rough. I guess the mindset for many kids who join gangs and dropout actually starts before they enter high schools.

My middle school was terrible. So are most of the ones around here. IMO, middle school is worst than High School. But I went to one of the better HS, so maybe thats it.
Anyways there are many gang members in middle school. My middle school was full of Bloods and DDP's.

In NYC junior high schools are a mess. It's often where kids get lost.

Mott Junior HS
This is JHS 22......Mott Junior High School in the Bronx.....270 E. 167th St.
If this is what it takes for kids to sit down and learn, if the man gets the job done, good for him.

I teach elementary in the south Bronx. At the end of the day last year I worked with 6 5th graders. A couple of them were going to MS in Mott Haven, but it was called Mott Hall 2 or something like that. Not sure if this is the same school.
Middle school teachers have it worst. I don't know how they handle those kids lol

Really? In my experience, it was quite the opposite. High school is where everyone started getting messed up, and everyone was doing really good in junior high.

I'm glad to hear that was your experience!
I teach middle school, and Rachael I don't know how you deal with the little ones. Hahah they are cute and all, but I just don't know if I could do that!!!
I love teaching the middle school age. It is a crucial age, where many get lost or influenced by the wrong things. They are going through sooo many changes, and it's definitely a tough age, but I love it. Never a dull day. They can be such babies and little kids, but they are also maturing a lot, and you can really push them and challenge them.
Sadly, gangs are a problem at that age, and kids can get into a lot of trouble and into the wrong stuff in middle school...
