Make-Believe Maverick : Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain - broken link)
Very interesting article that, if true, states that McCain was always a shallow, impetutous, self-promoting, and mean-spirited little sh*t.

McCain is going where he can get votes.
He knows that he won't carry NYS no matter what he says about NY. LOL, McCain could complement New Yorkers, he could say that Manhattan has say the smartest people, the greatest food, the biggest hearts and none of it will make a difference............Obama is up by 20% in the NYS polls and its a known fact that the Dems will carry this state even if the polls exaggerate Obama's lead.
On the other hand McCain's staff is looking to win in the close states and they know that criticizing NYC is one tried and true way of picking undecided small town votes up so they point McCain in the direction of insulting NY in return for anti NY votes.
Obama criticized small town Pennslyvania virtues, McCain criticized NY elitists.
That's just the game of campaigning.

Rolling stone's journalists and/or editors and/or trends department tend to be a little brain-dead--people heavy into music or any of the other arts tend to be liberal, and they pander to that...
As for the word maverick, it's a slang term for unbranded cattle. Being part of ANY party would disqualify anyone from being a true maverick, no?

Actually, many Rollingstone writers are anything but brain dead and are quite intelligent. However the magazine has an extremely liberal viewpoint, and its not somewhere I would go for unbiased political info.

I posted it because it was one of the more interesting articles out there about McCain's past and piloting skills (an angle that is not always explored except in McCain's own very biased biographical myth that he has so successfully created for himself). At any rate, I get involved in online political discussions on more appropriate forums, but I had just read this and thought it was worth sharing. Take it or leave it...
And Rolling Stone, liberal leaning or not, has come out with more than their share of outstanding journalistic pieces over the years. I'm just saying...

McCain is right about the NY government
The whole NY government from the smallest villages to the towns, to the counties, to the state is the absolute worst in the country. Highest taxes which squeeze out working people and stifle businesses, redundant layers of government (http://www.knickerbockerblog.com/2006/10/more-evidence-that-new-york-st.html - broken link), rampant corruption, voters that are notorious for voting in incumbent after incumbent while housing a huge parasitic welfare population.
The only saving grace about NY is that it has some of the best people here but the government and the politics are horrific. Now that all the eggs are in one basket(Wall Street) if that fails the gig may be up. In the past New York had a very diversified economy, no more.

elite: (a) The choice part; especially a socially superior group
(b) A powerful minority group (a power elite inside the government)
Then it goes on to talk about typewriters with elite and pica. LOL
I would say that many New Yorkers and D. C. people would think themselves in those groups.
I can think of others that would fit that description also.
I wonder if people are using the word elite in the same way, or has it taken on new meanings.
