Agreed New Yorker

Why are the cops that have been accused of the attack still on active duty? Shouldnt they at least suspend them while it is investigated, there are witnesses to the attack!!

We still don't know for sure whether the cops actually did this..but they have witnesses that confirm that they heard him yell "why are you sticking that walkie-talky up my a$$." We also have witnesses that confirm that they did see his bare a$$. We also have medical evidence from the victim to indicate there was an "anal assault" as well as subsequent internal bleeding consistent with that diagnosis. We don't know yet, but the underlying problem here is that the NYPD, even when blatantly guilty with OVERWHELMING evidence, ALWAYS LIE and claim innocence, and the NYPD Brass and Unions back them and assist them in fabricating stories. Unfortunately, the NYPD no longer has the credibility necessary to conduct (at least in appearance) remotely fair investigations, nor are they honest/reliable (as viewed by the public). This was all due to their perverse culture of "US vs Them", and protecting their own no matter what. AS a result, we do not know what truly happened, but unfortunately, the NYPD has discredited itself too much and now I must listen and take this case seriously. The way I see things now, the police must PROVE they did not do this, whereas before the victim would have to prove it. It is truly unfortunate indeed.

I just have to say....the bad rep that nypd gets disgusts me! I don't think this whole thing even happened! I think there are to many people in the city that don't like cops and are dying to get them in trouble whenever they can. Find something else to do with your time!
You should see what ingnorant peopl, and nonsense they have to deal with on a daily basis!

Agreed Jackie....but maybe when you are rammed off a bicycle by a cop FOR NO REASON and injured, or you live your life out of a colostemy bag because cops rammed a broomstick up your a$$, or you are tasered to death b/c cops felt like it, or you are beaten and attacked by gangs of cops because you are not white, or the THOUSANDS of documented and undocuments abuses that have occured over the past 50 years..maybe you will understand why SOME people hate cops. I respect cops, and in fact have only had positive experiences with them (and I live in Mott Haven), nonetheless, I SEE what happens, I KNOW what has happenned, and I realize that nothing is changing, and in fact the abuses may be getting worse as the profound lack of leadership, training, teamwork, and positive work environment has degraded the police force into a haphazard, poorly run, dysfunctional organization full of bullies, greed, and corruption. It is quite sad indeed..and it may be getting worse.

In recent years....the quality of what has been hired to the force is very poor.......and a big part of the problem. NYPD was so desperate for cops, that they hired so many that don't know how to act in society, much less be a cop

It is easy to blame the new rectruits, but it is the fundamental lack of training, leadership, resources, teamwork, and dysfunctional culture that is taking otherwise good candidates and turning them BAD. If your assertion were true, and these horrendous actions were something new in recent years, then I would agree with you. However these abuses have been going on unchecked for decades..this is nothing new. When we supposedly had "good" recruits and a "respected" police force....there were just as many police brutality cases and abuses, but the magic of video footage was not prevalent, so they could keep the image going despite the rampant corruption and abuse. Today, not so...and the only thing that is happening is an unraveling of the cover that has shielded cops for so long. If you want to blame the rampant abuse and corruption on the "recent" recruits..that's fine, but you would be painfully wrong, as this has been going on for decades.

I think the poor recruits thing is often overstated. I'm not doubting its a contributor but many of the cops caught out there doing foolishness are vets.

I think the problems are mostly institutionalized, and have developed over years and years.

Everything I've read in the paper and heard on the news said the witnesses didn't see any assault. Where has anyone read differently?
