Rachel do you think it is also jerkish when women run in and take a seat before ME when its obvious I was going for it? It's also a shame that there aren't many Ladies in this city.

A healthy dose of skepticism is pretty okay in a city like NYC where too often someone approaches you in crutches for a handout then sprints away after tallying the day's receipts. But if you see a woman actually looking at her feet, grimacing, rubbing her toes, etc., struggling to remain on her feet in a crowded subway, you know the woman is in pain. Hence one can make an educated guess without asking her for proof such as taking off her shoes. For the chivalry of giving a seat we men don't need to demand proof of the specified pain.
For instance if she's rubbing her upper body a lot then evidently she's got some ache for which I would surrender my seat without asking her to undress to show me proof of the pain.

One would think Miles, but the rampant abuses by these actors and actresses who fake illneses and disabilities to cheat the city, state, federal governments for disability payments, lawsuits, and handouts from community centers and people are the same people manipulating those all around them, whether it be for a seat on the train by "rubbing their achy feet and glaring at you" are more common than you think unfortunately. I had a hard day of work too..my feet hurt...but guess what..most people have to muddle through it too..why can't you? If walking and riding the trains is too hard on you, you may consider taking a job that does not require you to commute at all, or maybe you should move to a place that will provide you with another option of getting around, like on those old people scooters..the little rascals and hover-rounds.

LOL. Last time I checked those scooters were being recalled along with a slew of toys, medications, clothing from the People's Republic of China for not meeting safety standards here in the USA.
In any event Rachael would be hard pressed to hop aboard one of those with her bookbag, teacher's supplies, umbrella, to head over the Triboro then through Mott Haven (where she might face some danger not just from traffic)then all the way to her school.

I have leg and back problems too, which are pretty noticeable in my posture, but I don't see anyone offering me a seat, and I don't expect anyone to be... just as, I don't expect to give up my seat to anyone else either. It might be cruel, it might be mean, but that's tough... this is Sparta!

I think most men would/should give up a seat for a women, I see this happen a lot on the trains. I think it is very gentlemanly, and more men should do it. I usually decline and keep standing b/c it doesn't bother me to stand, but I think a few more gentleman in the world can't hurt

Analytical-Obviously if you are a handicapped man, or have leg back problems you should get to sit over a women, I am talking about healthy younger men.

Now all of a sudden all the men on the NYC trains are breaking out in aches and pains, rheumatism, arthritis, swollen joints, complaining of a hard day's work after posting on CD all day - all because a young tired teacher has aching feet from a really tough day standing for 5 hours valiantly teaching in the NYC public school system.
Way to go, fellas.

Well, that's my point.. people look at me and don't see these problems, all they see is that I'm young.
