I was being sarcastic. I suppose I was referring to all the new "extensions" of Williamsburg and how the neighborhoods around them seem to be losing their names if not identities. All these people wish to live in Williamsburg but can't quite afford it, so they move to an adjacent neighborhood and just call it East, West, North or South Williamsburg...or whatever....Same thing with my neighborhood...suddenly it's known as South Park Slope because of wishful thinking (b/c of all the new yuppies, prices have gone up in my local grocery store). I live in Kensington, not Park Slope! I know names shouldn't matter, but it's just representative of how this whole damn city is changing and becoming too much to handle.

Thank gawd I'm moving away soon...Born and raised here and I'll miss it to death, esp. the Chinese food, but it's not the same anymore. NYC is not the same as it was when Coming to America was made [which I know takes place in Queens but hot damn it's a good movie].

I guess I just really hate that neighborhood (W-burg) and needed to vent. Thanks for indulging me, forum. Thanks.

In my life-time, New York has changed so much that occasionally I thought I was in another City, so I totally understand and appreciate your POV.

I don't know what to attribute it to but undoubtedly gentrifying also means reclassifying.

I think when I was growing up we had about half a dozen or so neighbourhood designations; today we must have dozens.

I hope the City retains the name, "Coney Island."
