This reminds me of my most humiliating story. I went to a shoe store and asked to see a pair of shoes in a size 9, but when the shoes arrived they were too small. Turns out I was a size 9 1/2. As you can imagine I was completely humiliated, and had never felt so embarassed. Since that day I swore never to wear shoes again...it took me a good 3 years before I was strong enough to show my face again in public.
You know White people buy in lower budget stores too...
Why would you think the place was "out of your league," just because white people were there? Like other posters have mentioned you should be more embarrassed by your own stereotypes and referring to a salesperson as a waitress.

One can indeed be embarrassed in a clothing store but not necessarily for the same reasons as the OP.
I remember years ago when the salesgirl barged in on me in the dressing room. Obviously she thought the booth (which happened to have no bolt or other lock) was empty and went in to retrieve jeans to be put back on the rack. I was still in my underwear getting into my slacks and she took one look, apologized profusely, and rushed back out.
I too would have been extremely embarrassed, were it not for my being already accustomed to this with my girlfriend doing pretty much the same all the time whenever she finds me in like state.
