Default Bad Credit and Renting a Apartment

I have been throwing around the idea of moving to New York City for awhile. I will be going there in December to look for possible jobs and places to live, scout it out. I have to admit my credit is in the Weak category. Would it be hard to find a reasonably priced apartment that down not check credit?

Default I was going through...

a chapter 13 BK when I had to move and I got my apartment without the landlord doing a credit check. He asked for 12 cancelled rent receipts, I gave it to him and they gave me the apt. he could have done the credit check but he gave me that option.

It may depend on how badly the LLwants to rent out the apt, the cost of the apt(mine is a studio and cheap) and how well you are known in the area (I had lived across the street for many years before I had to move and I pointed that out to the LL) for you to avoid having a credit check done

I have heard that some landlords will accept an extra month or two security deposit to make up for bad credit. At the very least, you should probably try your best to have some significant savings.

thanks for the response. I would never make a significant move coast to coast without have adequate funds saved up. I was thinking anyways of paying at least 3 months of rent at once.

I had the same problem. I just moved back to LA from Philly. I was in bad shape. But, I was able to get around credit problem by using CovertAlibi.com to verify my employment with a higher wage than what I'm really making and they pretended to be my last landlord and gave me a great recommendation.

You should think about alternatives. Because the credit catch isn't a small hook. The way the system is set up, once your tagged, your tagged for a long, long time. That's why I decided to use these guys. It cost me $150 bucks. But, that was better than paying a 50% higher deposit.

Good luck.
