The bronx is way better than staten island. Staten island is a joke. It doesnt have the look or feel of a nyc borough. Theres nothing to see past the north shore. They tried to succeed from the rest of nyc. And the bronx has waaay better places than riverdale and city island. Ask a true new yorker next time
It does not have the look or feel of a NYC borough, because it is more SUBURBAN than URBAN. "That there is nothing to see past the North Shore," might be obvious, if one has never been to the SOUTH SHORE, with a multitude of Greenbelts, lakes, parks, and fabulous restaurants....Zagat rated!!!!!!! We even have a Movie Studio........

What do these "old school values" entail exactly?

Staten Islanders don't want their neighborhoods turning into another NYC ghetto.

Left Staten Island after I retired from a city job in 2007. Have to say that it is the only borough I would live in to raise a family. I was very happy with Staten Island overall. I grew up in Brooklyn. The only problem I ever saw was that Staten Island seemed to get shortchanged in city services, especially the number of Police Officers assigned to patrol the borough. On a summer afternoon you may have to wait over two hours for the police to respond. That is totally unacceptable and would not be accepted in any other borough. As for conservative values....thank God Staten Island was there for me to be around at least a few Republicans.......

I'll take a nice, peaceful, suburb-like Staten Island neighborhood anyday over any dirty, crime-ridden Bronx ghetto.

Not to mention how most of the "conservatives" on Staten Island are government workers (policemen, firemen, sanitation workers, Port Authority workers, mailmen etc.) or otherwise blue-collar workers in the construction trade who owe EVERYTHING they have to the union movement (that Republicans are so keen on discrediting and destroying).

I'd like to see what those "beautiful SI neighborhoods" would be like if government really was made smaller and unions were dismantled. Perhaps they'd look like...oh, I don't know...those black and latino neighborhoods after all the industrial jobs dried up in the post-war years?
