You're very welcome. It can be a challenge with all of the transportation options in the city to sort out which agency goes to which location and then from which transportation center in Manhattan. Never fear, though, as New Yorkers are willing to help out with directions, and many of us who post here at city-data can offer many hints and perspectives to make your time in NYC more enjoyable.

Hi, I live close by (30th and 3rd) and this neighborhood kinda sucks for shopping in general. You'll have 10 dry cleaners in a two block radius, but no good shopping. I go to the Union Square area and Chelsea (I walk, but 37th might be a bit of a truck) for:
The Farmer's Market
DSW
Filene's Basement
TJ Maxx
Daffy's
Bed, Bath, and Beyond
The Container Store
Sports Authority
Old Navy
Best Buy
Home Depot
Staples
Petco
You can look on the websites for exact locations. I also use the K Mart on 34th.

don't forget the KMart in the Village at Astor Place. Years ago I saw U2 play live inside the store, a promotional appearance to open their new tour.

You should also use hopstop.com to help get around the subway system. it's like mapquest for public transportation.

Order everything online and have it delivered. Also - you can rent a car for one day and pick up things in the outer boroughs.
