Since rush hour and day time trains are at their highest levels, maybe the MTA should re-assign the heaviest track projects for second and third shift. Cut the current number of first shift crews except for minor projects and/or emergency work.
Who knows, with the reassignment of crews maybe no one would have to be laid off and real work could get done. I do agree though that supervision and management should be held accountable.
I hate to see anyone lose their jobs if their actually doing it. But, me paying three dollars a ride because of poor and incompetent managers - NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!

They already do all of that and more, stuff like fabricating the rail.

So they got caught at the end of their shift, when they weren't actually working on the tracks...that proves only that someone knew they could get headlines with their stuff.

a worker said she only worked 1 or 2 hrs

The problems with MTA stem from above and work their way down. These guys are just being used as scapegoats, don't misdirect your anger and fall for it.

I don't doubt that this happens sometimes--normally, overnight work projects must finish up by 5:00AM, so that everything is off the tracks before the morning rush hour begins. Sometimes the contractors (who aren't MTA employees, and their schedules are their own) finish up early. What would you like the track workers to do...sit there on the tracks for several hours?
You guys can make all the jokes you want, but the truth is, not many of you would last long as track workers in the New York City subway.

Fred, we all know being a track worker is one of the hardest and most dangerous job in all of the 5 Boroughs. However, if there is someone who doesn't do their job to the fullest extent, that person should be let go.

You are the only one who makes sense on this thread. You can imagine how high some of these people would jump if a rat the size of a cat ran in front of them down there on the tracks, lol.
Why get angry over people only making 40-50k yr? Do you think Bill Evans is worth the $1.5 million that he earns as a weatherman? What about the NYC Council members...$90k yr for a Part Time job.....and only they can vote for a raise themselves..
