Default Waterfront areas - Bklyn,Queens etc

It seems that there are some places right on the water that aren't too expensive. I don't know these places but look on a map and one can trace around the boroughs.
College Point
Brighton Beach

Quite a few parts of Queens- some south.

What are these places like?

What are you looking for? You might want to check out Marine Park or Sheepshead Bay.

Something not too expensive that might have a water view. NYC is the most expensive place but maybe $400k for a smaller house with a view-avg neighborhood- not too far (30 Min from Manhattan but that last requirement isn't a deal breaker). Even old industrial views are fine.

Here's one = 400K in City Island in the Bronx. Waterview from the attic only.
Probably more than 30 min. to Manhattan but you can check.

Thanks Henna - it doesn't look too great but my guess is $400k doesn't buy much in NYC.

I'm in no rush and expect prices to go down but did want to know about some of the areas I mentioned.

400K is not going to buy even a dump around Brighton/Sh Bay area. Brighton beach is a mecca of Russian community with lots of ethnic stores and restaurants, lots of development going on as shacks get knocked down, replaced by condos. The subway line runs the entire length of the area, parking is extremely tight, virtually impossible, the place is very crowded with residents and visitors almost every day, every hour.
Sh Bay is nearby, but totally different feel, more diverse population, Italians, Asians, Russians, very safe, feels like a small European seaside town, good shopping and places to eat.

Thanks I did seem to see a few places listed in Rockaway-- what is that like? ALso Roosevelt Island. I don't even mind an industrial view.

If you go to Roosevelt Island I don't think you're going to find a house. It would have to be an apartment. Although if you took one facing west, you'd have a spectacular view of the entire Manhattan skyline.

By the way, I'm also big on views. I live in Midwood, Brooklyn, which isn't by the waterfront, but I have an unobstructed view across Brooklyn, with the whole Manhattan skyline as a backdrop. For that $400,000 you could definitely get a really nice apartment around here--and the neighborhood would have you thinking that you're in a suburb someplace. It doesn't look like a part of the city, at all. A little less than 45 minutes to midtown on the F train...faster using the B or Q.

Fred I once lived on 8th and Ave N when growing up - nice area but I didn't have the views.

This is an old thread now but maybe there are new people with ideas on places with water views.
