haner is on a distinguished road
Thanks for the info everyone. The area I'm looking at is near downstate, New York Ave, around Lenox Rd., and Linden Blvd. Ideally, I'd like to walk west towards the Q for Parkside Ave since it's a straight shot up midtown so I don't have to take the 2/5. Will will the 'hood be a terrible walk at 8am and 6pm? I Since this area is surrounded by a hospital and medical school, it really can't be terrible to live at right? I would probably never go further east than New York Ave., unless I had to park my car for alternate side. Most of my business would be west towards the subway and back towards the downstate area.

1) Heavily congested on Church Av, Nostrand
2) Crime IS a bit up there
3) If you don't like noise, Labor Day Weekend's an issue!

The 5 train only runs at Rush Hour. Thats the only thing I don't like about living on that train line. The 2 train isn't great.
I usually take a "dollar van" (it costs $2.00) up Flatbush Avenue to Downtown Brooklyn and then hop on the F-train at Jay St. to get to work.
Other than that Flatbush is a nice middle class neighborhood with some crime- its Brooklyn crime happens.

I should have said 2 train runs all the time, with 5 rush hours. I stand corrected, although I lived around the Junction for a minute, and my mother is still there.

Some of them dollar van cats drive crazy, but they do fill a void if the bus isn't there.

I worked around there. BTW, by Downstate is some of the worst of that area. Having said that, I am fond of the Flatbush area. I like the Carribean atmosphere, which is definitely an upper in January and February when it's cold and snowing.

The dollar van is faster, never have to wait more than 5 minutes, more comfortable with cushioned seats, and they play good reggae music!
But they do drive crazy!
most of the time weather permitting I ride my bike to Manhattan straight down Flatbush Ave and over the Manhattan Bridge. Takes about 30-40 minutes- Faster than the train.
I love Flatbush- East, West, North, and South!

Nice middle class area? Lol. Gravesend,Bay Ridge, and Bensonhurst are middle class areas. East flatbush is a low class area. Unless you're implying that black middle class areas are always crime ridden. Just reading between the lines here.
