Different incident, same violent neighborhood.
I feel safer in Flatbush. Its more condusive to togetherness.

To be honest, the Italians are leaving Bensonhurst; been exiting for the past 15 years. It's becoming more Russian and Asian.

The car was really blown up, but thats the least of the problems in Bensonhurst. There is plenty of graffiti in Bensonhurst on 86th street, 20th ave, cropsey ave YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Xaverian the high school you went to is in Bay Ridge. People hang out in front of their buildings in Bensonhurst, THEY DO THE SAME THINGS that any other neighborhood does.
I live in Flatbush cuz I love its energy, its close to Brooklyn College, and close to my mothers house. And yes I am in an interracial couple and I feel much safer in Flatbush than in Bensonhurst considering its violent past.
You don't know what you are talking about. Your ignorance is quite entertaining. You seem to suffer from a false consciousness.

I spoke to some older guys and was told that the Hawkins guy was trying to steal cars and there had been a rash of robberies. Take a trip to b'hurst. You won't see graffiti or guys loitiering in front of stores and in hallways. They people respect eachother, even the asians. They are very quiet and work hard. They teach their kids to behave. I like everyone. Bad people are bad people no matter what color.

Dude I've lived in NYC my whole life.
Ask around. Bensonhurst has always had that reputation. Maybe it deserves it, maybe it does not. It is what it is.

What's the reason for the exodus?
1. Lack of affordability of NYC?
2. Cashing out on what are now million-dollar houses (pre-housing crash, of course!)
3. Ethnic changes
4. All of the above

The population of Staten Island has been on a sharp increase over the past 15 years.
The retirement of the baby boomer generation has also been a factor in the exodus.
Florida is a large destination for retired Italians, i always say that Florida is where New Yorkers go before they go to heaven.
Also the exodus of Bensonhurst and other Italian strongholds has been going on since the 1950's.
Chinese and Russian immigrants have been in the neighborhood for quite a while now.

B'hurst doesn't have a racist reputation. I live in a bordering negihborhood. I'm 23 and I have never heard of that. There are plenty of asians in b'hurst. Sometimes people create stories of racism.
