Pls help with info for specific address in Bronx
Hi
I would be very appreciative if anyone of youŽd know if this area in Bronx is a safe (for walking during evenings, getting home late) neighbourhood to live in: Marion avenue 196, (no. 2718) for a male in his early 30Žs and wife and 5 yr old child.
Thank you very much in advance.

That's one of the worst neighborhoods in the city, Fordham-Bedford aka North Fordham. Lots of Puerto Ricans. I was just there this weekend on 195th and Decatur, which is close by and I was very uncomfortable. The neighborhood is really dense, with large brown apartment buildings covered in graffiti everywhere. The streets are tiny, and in the spring summer and early fall the streets get packed. Lots of drugs there too.
Look elsewhere.

I wouldn't really call it a safe neighborhood, but that is a very subjective opinion. If you are looking to live in the Bronx, I would stick with Riverdale, Woodlawn, Bedford Park, Throggs Neck.

To put it mildly...
it's not safe there. I've driven that street a few times and even during the day it's packed with dubious people, that exact corner Marion and 196th. North of 198th Marion is much better, some nice elevator buildings

IMO, the prototype of what people view as the Bronx ghetto, Long blocks, narrow streets, large attached looming buildings, bodega corners, drug dealers, loitering, trash and graffiti is the Fordham-Bedford neighborhood. If any of you do a Google street view of the Fordham-Bedford neighborhood, you would see what I mean. It's the first neighborhood that comes to mind when I think of Bronx hoods.
BTW, There was a homicide this morning just 2 blocks from there.
An unidentified Latino male, believed to be in his 30's, was found shot in the gut early Monday morning at the corner of E. 198th Street and Pond Place in the Bronx, according to a police report. The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. No arrests.

Yeah. It's terrible because the dam blocks are so narrow. And the buildings go on for miles and it front of every building and on every corner there's people hanging out. I never go by myself.

Had cousins that lived on Pond Place years ago, that's where I went to kindergarten at Mount St. Ursula.......now gone, I believe condo's???
I googled the area and was amazed at the changes, the house where my cousins lived is gone.......but I still have vivid memories.
