You should really invest in yourself with a degree before coming here. NYC is ultra competitive and only the smart, strong, resourceful or some combination of all three survive. I came here with a liberal arts degree and was paying for a tiny bedroom in Queens paying $450 a month, making only $15 an hour doing temp work. I wouldn't describe it as hell as long as you can get into a nice neighborhood, your level or excitement and adventure the first few years after moving here more than makes up for it I find. In just 3 years I've managed to over triple my salary, so opportunities certainly exist if you know how to play your cards right. I think it's worth the gamble, but then I have friends with ivy league MBAs that are out of a job and not finding anything.
