The numbers are the official designations. Most people still use the original names. (18 Avenue is now Cristoforo Colombo, and Pennsylvania has been Granville Payne since 1985, but nobody uses the new designations there, either). And we don't even have to get started with Queens, where half of the original street names were officially replaced by numbers. Take a ride on the #7 or N trains, where MTA has had to add the original street names at all the stations!)

I live right by the bridge and go over it everyday for work. It's strange seeing the sign for the RFK bridge at the corner. Not used to it.

Here we are on the brink of economic malaise, looming recession, thousands out of work, stocks tumbling, automakers in Washington carrying tin cups, world markets in jitters, unemployment lines going around entire neighborhoods - and we spend 4 million to rename a bridge? God Bless the memory of RFK, but this seems so wasteful, or at least imprudent, in these uncertain times.
