I'm a NY native that has been living in Ohio for the past 9 years. I can tell you that there are some great advantages of living in Ohio over NY (cheaper living, nice cities amongst farm land, nice people).

But the biggest drawback to Ohio for me is that it's so middle-of-the-road. I am friends with so many people here that are happy in their safe little suburb, they are happy eating at all their chain restaurants, and life is very "safe", for a lack of a better word. I talk to them about the excitement of NYC or Philly or DC, and the response I get is "I visited there once. It was dirty". They don't really see the value of being in a large place like NYC -- plenty of culture, plenty of neighborhood restaurants, plus the proximity to the beach!!!

I'm not saying Ohio is a bad place, it's just quite a different mindset from what you get on the East Coast.
