I'm not a great bowler either, but that sounds like a good idea. We can be like the bad news bears of bowling
Gil Hodges is kinda far out there and last time I went they had a metal detector to get in
Melody Lanes is a good one and easy to get to. Or maybe the city would be the best bet, like the one in the Port Authority?

Chelsea Piers has bowling, it's pretty cool, but out-of-the-way and not cheap.
300 New York - Bowling - New York City - NYC - 10011

I would like to check out Bowlmor Lanes near Union Square, but I suspect it too is not cheap.

Bowlmor is more of a night club now rather than your average charming bowling alley.

pureistheword is on a distinguished road
I looked up Bowlmor once, I think it was like $30 for 2 games and shoes. too much for me.

Sometimes I can deal with Shell Lanes (its far south in brooklyn, walking distance for me, but its pretty cheap. decent place at best)

I like Shell, but it does fill up fast with all the leagues at night. I used to go there in High School for Bowling Gym.

I'm sorry, but Bowlmor is a yuppy bowling spot with celebrity sitings. If we're gonna bowl, lets go bowl for real. Peronally I'd much more prefer the good ol' NY Bowling Alley. Bowlmor is too much of a scene.

I had fun last time I was there. They had Monday night rock n' bowl. I didn't really see "yuppies" there.

Bowlmor is alright but it is expensive and it does have a nightclub feel to it. In the city I used to go to the Port Authority lanes. It was pretty fun. Have not been to the one in Harlem yet and the last time I went bowling in Brooklyn, Beford Lanes was still open. I have heard that Melody Lanes is pretty good and I hope to check that out eventually.
