I don't know about the Crab Pot, but there's a great seafood place called London Lennie's in Rego Park (Queens). It's been there since 1959 and I highly recommend it.

There's also a good one called Docks Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Grill on Broadway in the 80's (Manhattan)

City Island has a plethora of seafood restaurants, including the Crab Shanty.
Original Crab Shanty Restaurant
Here's a link to other restaurants on the island: Restaurant Main Menu
City Island is in the Bronx, but it's a safe area, much like an old New England seafaring town, with sailmakers, boat facilities, seafood restaurants, shops, and residences.
You can get there via public transit, but it would take about an hour from Midtown via subway and bus. Or, you could take a MetroNorth train to Pelham, bypassing the subway ride, and then a taxi to City Island. It's about a 15 minute ride from the station to City Island, and the train is roughly 30 minutes from Midtown.
Edit: It's not a difficult drive to get to City Island, if you have a car with you. I tend to drive places, myself, but realize that tourists don't always want/need to drive in NYC.

There is a great hidden gem seafood restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Called Clemente's-(not randazzo's). All you can eat maryland crabs!
Definately recommend it!
