You can go to the Westchester in White Plains for Upscale Shopping or Roosevelt Fiels Mall in Long Island. If you want tax free clothing there's Newport Center Mall in Jersey City and for Outlet Shopping there's Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth. Other than that, I would stick to 34th Street, Brodway from 8th Street to Canal or the Manhattan Mall on 6th ave and 33rd Street.

NYC is not a city of "malls"--like other US cities. It has mostly street-level shops in high rise buildings. I'd recommend you walk down Broadway from Union Square to downtown. Then meander over to Soho and West Broadway. You'll get SO much shopping done and see so many unique stores and shops that a mall could never hold a candle to...If you are deadset on malls, go to the one in Paramus, NJ, or Queens Center Mall in Queens. The one in White Plains is nice, but I prefer shopping in the city.

When the White Plains Galleria opened in the summer of 1980 it was really cool. It declined slowly in the early 90's when that wild Kosher deli restaurant closed down(I loved the place). Toward the late 90's I started feeling uneasy there and when JC Penney closed in early Y2K I hardly went there. I felt safer at Bay Plaza than at the Galleria(and a woman was murdered in the parking lot of the Galleria a few years ago)

It might be; everyone seems to say that it is. Without question, it's certainly the least accessible of all the malls within the city.

Yeah thats why I've never been there. I guess the best in terms of accessibilty, the herald Sq. mall (Manhattan Mall?) or Fulton Mall are the best bet.
I grew up going to Kings Plaza, but that is pretty far out there if your not from the area.
