Thanks in advance for helping me out on this..........

We will be visiting NYC right before Christmas. We will be staying with friends near the Metropark station in NJ and will be visiting New York City on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, December 21-23rd departing the area on Tuesday afternoon to drive west back home.

We will probably take the train in on Sunday and Monday since we want to see sites in the Penn Station area. We were planning on visiting Manhattan on Tuesday. We will leave Manhattan for home (Indiana) Tuesday afternoon.

I was thinking on Tuesday about driving from NJ to Staten Island in the morning (after rush hour), taking the Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan, visiting that area for a couple of hours, then returning to SI via the ferry around 3 or 4 pm. We would then get in the car and start heading west, (towards PA on either I-78 or I-76.

My questions are these.....
1. 1. Is parking a problem near the SI ferry terminal if we come in later in the day? (9:30 am or so).
2. Is traffic bad on SI around 9:30am and/or 3-4pm?
3. Once I get out of town, I am heading towards Harrisburg, PA. Google routing gives me two routes with the same driving times......I-276 to I-95 to Trenton, or I-287 to I-78. Which way would be the bast way out of town on a Tuesday afternoon before Christmas?

Thanks for your help.

I am not an expert on the SI side of the ferry, especially at those times of day, but it does seem reasonable. I know that there is parking in St. George, but not sure if it fills up, and when.

As for leaving, I-95 will be the worst. It's an easier drive to head west on I-78 to get to Harrisburg, since you avoid all of the I-95 traffic that can be an absolute nightmare to navigate. And I-276 is routed through Philadelphia suburbs, whereas I-78 is smaller towns and farms, save for a couple of places in the Lehigh Valley.

Plenty of parking in the ferry for 5 dollars a day.
