NEW YORK – Weeks after the shooting in Tucson, sellers at an Arizona allowed undercover investigators hired by New York City to buy semiautomatic pistols even after they said they probably couldn't pass a background check, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday.

"After Tucson, you would think that people, particularly at a gun show in Arizona, would have been much more careful in enforcing the law," he said. "That unfortunately in some cases wasn't the case."

You'd almost get the idea that he wants some name recognition outside the city. As though he had it in mind to run for President...

I think he is reacting to the fact that the bulk of guns on city streets come from places like Arizona. A good Mayor recognizes that we don't just live in a bubble in 5 boroughs, and what happens in the rest of the country clearly affects us too. Why berate him for talking about reality? And for exposing what is happening in NYC and the rest of the country?

He does nothing about crime/guns on the streets, people complain, he talks about the reality of guns and exposes real problems driving crime in NYC, and people complain. See a trend here? Just the usual complainers/Bloomberg haters.

As a fellow New Yorker/Brooklynite, can you imagine anything scarier than that putz in The White House?

What's so wrong about remarking on Bloombergs arrogating federal powers to himself in dictatorial fashion in a vainglorious bid for national attention to further his egomaniacal thirst for power? I guess you're ready for a national ban on trans fats and national limits on how much salt we may consume.

You can have it.

Wow...did you really just say that? By the way, Bloomberg isn't the first to restrict and outlaw things that are bad for us! The government does it all the time! But somehow Bloomberg is the problem?

You are welcome to remark about Bloomberg, but when he reacts to the nonstop out of state guns flooding NYC streets, increasing violent crime in NYC, and making NYC less safe for you and me, and then uncovers part of the problem in Arizona...why exactly are you complaining?

If he were doing NOTHING about it, I would be complaining. But he is uncovering the reality of a major problem with crime in NYC: Out of state guns flooding NYC. That's what a good Mayor does!

This time i think he picked the wrong state and time to do this in for a lot of the people in the state are mad over the timeframe that he did this undercover string .Right now there is a movement in the Az to bring him to the state over his lastest stunt over going out of the city limits and do this type of strings ..

Have him show how a hand gun bought in Az gets onto the streets of NYC and then it time for him to put up or shut up and stay out of the other states business ..

The Az state AG is looking to bring charges and there is people in the lawmakers what him bought to the state to stand charges for this type of undercover string and make laws saying that he pulls this stunt again he going to jail for it ..

He need to stay in the city and worry about the how to fix the city problems first ..

plus give the facts of how the gun laws in the city does not really stop the criminals there and here in the southwest most of the citizen pack heat and will use it without a second thoughts to defend ourself from a out of control criminal element that seams to be out of control on the eastern citys ..

We already know that guns from these gun events are a source of illegal guns, and AZ was having just such a gun show, which is why he chose AZ, and it proved his point. I don't understand the argument of "mind your own business"..it may work when your mom told you when you were 5..but why do you think it is a valid argument here?

I agree though that I hope alot of people are mad about this..mad about the fact that gun sellers are not following the law and are providing guns to people who should not have them in AZ, NY and who knows how many other states. How nobody understands that LESS guns, not more, is what's needed is beyond me. The answer to the nuclear weapon problem is not giving every country nuclear weapons!!!!! It is reducing them!!!!

And what is all this "wild west" BS about citizens needing to carry guns/40 clip magazines/semi-automatics because of the nonstop shootouts by criminals attacking them? Where is this happening????????????????? Are you getting shot everyday at Applebees? Wal-Mart? Save-A-lot? Getting your mail? Another non-argument. It just isn't happening.

I'm glad he did it.Someone has to demonstrate how absurdly lax the gun laws are in some states. It's insanity that childrens' toys are more regulated than guns in this country.
Bloomberg can be a jerk at times but I completely agree with him on this one.
