Default Brooklyn neighborhoods with larger homes, yards?

I know nothing at all about Brooklyn. I have the idea that it is strictly apartment living, and that those seeking a driveway, detached house, and backyard of any size need to look elsewhere. But I know that other large U.S. cities do have their more spacious neighborhoods -- even San Francisco has a few districts where houses have yards and space. Can anyone enlighten me as to whether such a place exists in Brooklyn?

Thanks!

Check out Midwood, Dyker Heights, and Gerritsen Beach, to name a few.

Gerritsen Beach is pretty tight. In that area I'd look at Marine Park.

Bay Ridge, they have detached houses with swimming pools and driveways,
Check it out...

Google Maps

Bay Ridge is full of houses, and especially detached houses, with backyards and private driveways

Also the areas called Victorian Flatbush and Ditmas Park. There's probably just as much of Brooklyn that features private homes as apartment or rowhouses, if not more.

Mill Basin too - the "New Section" basically looks like the suburbs. Old Mill basin has more semi-detached and attached, but driveways and yards are pretty much the norm.
