Default Address today?

Does anyone know if the midtown Manhattan address of 531 W 48th street still exists today? I was just reading a fascinating but scary story of a murder of a man at that address by a neighbor and her boyfriend who originally wereplanning to rob someone they both knew. This occured back in 1978.

Would you think that address at that time was a haven for criminals or the poor? I'm curious to know what type of dwelling it was and who lived there then as opposed to who lives there now

Hells Kitchen in the 70s was kinda sketchy, yeah. Today it's full of yuppies, but still not as affluent as other parts of Midtown. There's been a lot of new construction around there over the past decade, so I'd imagine it was much different back then.

The name alone is a giveaway. One of the worst areas in NYC right through the 80's. It'll still take decades of gentrification to wipe out its legacy.
