Below poverty level, Dominicans and Nuyoricans are the highest, much higher compared to blacks and other groups.

Quelinda I have discussed the inherent cultural issues that have created the problems they have today...it is the real root of the problem. CJMA...as you know, a significant portion of the Bronx was burnt to the ground, with drugs, crime, and a variety of social ills taking center stage. Most people of any means moved out, inlcuding much of the middle class PRs, to better places. As a result, what you see really are those that were left, the least capable, least educated, least functioning portion of the population....they are a shadow of what they were and not representative of anything other than the least capable of any group. If you isolate and segregate the bottom of any group...they will always come out at the bottom of all statistics...seems pretty obvious to me..then again..I lived the whole thing so I know what happened.

But is a valid statement, to say that this people give you and me a bad name.
Like I have said before, people do "funny faces" when I say I am Puerto Rican.
And is a valid statement to say that Nuyorican are doing worst compared to others groups.

You cannot control anyone but yourselves..if anyone is giving you a "funny face" when you indicate your race (why are they asking exactly) then these are people you would be better off not associating with. As for anyone giving you a bad name, that makes no sense...when people say they are "white" who thinks of the tens of millions of very poor whites all across America and then gives a "funny face." Its nonsense...anyone who does that should be avoided...and you will be much happier.

CJ, nice study but I think a more interesting comparison would exclude first generation Dominicans or Mexicans, or at least those that have been in the country less than 10 years in all three of these groups. When you have groups that have large numbers of poor immigrants, stats will always looks massively bleak. It's something to be aware of.
Studies have shown amongst Dominicans that the 2nd or more generations (overwhelmingly born here) tend to make at least double more than their parents and are substantially higher educated.
Mexicans also have been in the city in substantial numbers for such a small amount of time, I think its still way too early to include them in these type of studies much less draw conclusions from them.
Unfortunately it seems not enough studies have been done. I still swear there was one solely on New York college stats that came out about 3 years ago amongst the different ethnic groups, but I'm having trouble finding it. Urghhhh....

Well I dont know if exclude or not, I guess it doesn't and is just general of everybody. But I can also tell you this, the numbers of Puerto Rican immigrants to NYC have decline and actually the numbers of Puerto Rican have decline in total.

Yes, so that is even worst for nuyoricans that have been here for almost 3 generations(and some 4 generation).

CJ...hold your head up high..you come from a unique island with some of the best people in the world. Don't let the acts of a few people soil your pride...thats like all white people holding their heads down because of Jeffery Dahmer...they don't...and neither should you.

Heheheh,, I know, i am a proud Puerto Rican, I love Puerto Rico.
I am very sad for the current condition that P.R. is right now.
Puerto Rico really never recover from 9/11, and ever since the economy has gone down.
The US went down on 9/11 then recover and now is down again, but for some reason P.R. went down and never up.
All of my friends have left P.R., almost all professionals without business are leaving. The % of college graduates leaving the Island are record high. Last year about in June 40,000 people left the island, that is 10k a week. Most of them recent graduates. A lof of pharmaceuticals factories have closed(one of the main income of P.R.).
Like I said before the Ceiba base closed, and thousand of people lost jobs and business. And it doesnt help that San Juan is one of the most expensive cities in the World, when P.R. is poor.
I mean the list goes on and on.
I just hope it recovers.
