I am planning to drive to NYC for an interview at the corner of Canal St and Greene St. 1st... is this a safe area and where should I stay? I prefer a four star hotel. 2nd... how safe is it to drive my car or should I leave it at the hotel or somewhere outside the city?

Perfectly safe area. I would recommend the Ritz Carlton on West Street. It's a little over a mile away, near the tip of Manhattan, has great harbor view suites, and valet parking. I would recommend parking your vehicle at the hotel, taking a car service or cab to your destination (about 10 minutes' drive, if that), since parking can be tedious in Lower Manhattan. Plus, you're going to pay a daily rate, and the hotel's rate for a guest will almost certainly be better than the majority of garages.

Thanks for your reply, I have decided to fly in and stay in Upper West Manhattan.
