I never said the Bronx is doing anything the right way..I said it is community driven, and not traditional gentrification....which is the topic of the thread. I did not make a judgment or claim the Bronx is doing anything right. I think it is fair to say the rape of Brooklyn by residents cashing in, developers, and the marketing machine (brokers) has hurt some communities in a way that is not occuring in the Bronx (at least not yet). The Bronx has its own problems, and I was only pointing out the traditional gentrification, which is most closely associated in NYC with Brooklyn (as of late), is not what is happening in the Bronx.

Agreed bluedog...just in my corner of Mott Haven I know of whites that have moved in and have bought homes (not condos or co-ops)...and they are all from the city. None of them have kids however. However, I do believe the revitalization is primarily being driven by middle class people of color by far...and not by whites moving in from different parts of the city. Nonetheless, there are a mix of people that are making their home in the Bronx...the South Bronx in particular.

Right.I just thought it was crazy for Pepitone to say that there wouldn't be any white people moving into The Bronx except students and hipsters.
I recently bought an apt in Pelham Parkway. The real estate person that I worked with has been selling apartments( condos and coops) all over The Bronx ..and lots of them to white people... from the other boroughs and some empty nesters believe it or not from Westchester. The Westchester empty nesters grew up in The Bronx(Grand Concourse) in the 50's and 60's, moved to Westchester when their parents "fled" The Bronx, got married and raised a family in Westchester and decided to move back to The Bronx because they don't want to deal with a house any more and were bored in Westchester. They wound up back on The Grand Concourse after a 45 year absence!
Same thing is happening all over... down by you in Mott Haven, along the lower GC,along the upper GC,Bedford Park,Parkchester,Pelham Parkway, etc. It's not like there this invasion of white hipster gentrifiers.. just a steady trickle of middle class folks of all different kinds moving back or moving in.It should be a positive thing.

Well said, bluedog. We are one of those middle-class white families who've moved into the Bronx (Bedford Park) in recent years. I certainly don't think that white people are taking over, but yeah, I've noticed more whites moving to my neighborhood this year.

Welcome to the Bronx guys. You guys made a good choice choosing Bedford Park as your home. You have appropriate greenspace (along the Mosholu Pkwy and at Harris Park), excellent transportation (buses and trains to Westchester, Manhattan, and other parts of the Bronx), a whole lot of schools (at the Educational Mile).
The only downside is the parking in Bedford Park (as well as anywhere west of Webster Avenue in the Bronx).

Thanks for the welcome guys. The open space and good transportation options really drew us to the neighborhood. It's an attractive and convenient place, and in a short walk from our apartment, we can be in one of the most beautiful places I could imagine (I mean the Botanical Garden).
I didn't find parking to be all that difficult when I had a car, but I guess it's all relative. But you don't need a car here, and I don't have one anymore. It's much cheaper and so much less of a hassle.
