Default Does anyone recall a plane crash

...that occured near Yonkers, NY(not the small plane that crashed in the Hudson River off Yonkers in 2006) due to some kind of poor judgment by the pilot?

I was just browsing airline disasters on Googlebooks ("the unfriendly skies") when there was a paragraph about some type of 767 plane that crashed "near Yonkers, NY" after take off from laGuardia. the article seemed to run chronologically and was just prior to the description of the northwest Airlines flight 255 disaster in August 1987

I don't recall any plane crashes near Yonkers(at least from the year I was born in 1962 onward)

Does anyone recall?

There were many plane crashes on the Nyack/Piermont side of the Hudson as my Father, Mother and Brother assisted with the search and recovery on quite a few of them. I do believe there was one around the time frame you mention but I don't have the details. I am surprised that you haven't really heard of any. Many people from my home town of Piermont use to take out their own personal boats to assist the Fire Dept.

I don't know about Yonkers or a 767, but I remember there was a series of crashes of planes just taking off from LGA about 15-20 years ago. There was one in 1989 or so where the plane broke into sections because they tried to halt the takeoff and it slid into the river, and another a couple of years after that where the plane went into the East River or Flushing Bay within a few minutes of takeoff. Then there was one that skidded into a snowbank on the runway or something.

I lived near LGA back in the 60s-70s and don't recall any crashes there. But, Idelwild/JFK had a few fatals in that time frame. The closest I came to actually witnessing one was the Eastern flight which crashed in June '75 by Rockaway Blvd on approach during a storm. Today's event was blessed by timing and location in that it didn't happen at night and that the pilot was in fact able to have the time to select the river for a landing and that there were numerous boats in the area along with FDNY to get on scene so quickly.

When I read about this recent crash in the Hudson I also seemed to remember a similar crash in the Northeast some time ago. This might be the one you recall.Air Florida Flight 90 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The only plane crashes that I can remember, is the TWA flight, that crashed into the Atlantic back in 95 or 96. Also, that one plane that was heading to DR, and it crashed in the Rockaways, about two months after 9-11.

No this never happened, there was never a crash in Yonkers from a LGA departure.
