Hi all !
Happy soon to be 2009 !
I happen to be one of those folks working that evening (Dec 31) and will be getting out at 11p or so. I work in East Village.
Do you think I will have any problem getting into the Holland Tunnel tommorow evening from 1st and 16th?
I cant remember what web site to go to get detailed info on this.
Thanks so much and have a safe New Years eve~!

I can't say based on experience, but I don't think that should be a problem since most of the traffic will be around the times square area and you'll be going in the opposite direction. If anything, you could avoid the 14th st area and just head downtown on 2nd and cut through chinatown to the holland. Chinatown is usually dead at that time.

What route would one suggest on this drive:
from I-80, way out in Dover NJ, to Prospect Park in Brooklyn?
Would it be better to drive through Manhattan (Holland/Brooklyn Battery Tunnels) to get to Brooklyn, or would you rather head towards Elizabeth and drive through Staten Island to Brooklyn?

I would suggest putting this into Google Maps and see what route they come up with.

It suggests the route through lower Manhattan, but I don't know if traffic is really bad driving from JC to Brooklyn, compared to driving from Elizabeth to Brooklyn. Basically I wonder if it takes a long time to get from the Holland Tunnel to Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in Manhattan.
Basically it's a question of which is a more convenient route from Brooklyn to New Jersey -- through SI or through Manhattan?

Since you need the Prospect Expressway, I would go through Manhattan. The Holland Tunnel is not far from the Battery Tunnel. I'm not sure what the traffic or possible closures might be when you're coming though.

I would take Holland tunnel too, it shouldn't be too bad around that area but there might be traffic at the tunnel if a lot of jersey folks are coming into the city. But I think it's easier than going through SI and then the Verrazzano (if that how you spell it? lol).
