Default Midwood, Mill Basin, Windsor Terrace, Marine Park, Kensington, Seagate, Bergen Beach...

I was doing a Craigslist search on Midwood real estate but I also got some listings for:

Mill Basin, Windsor Terrace, Marine Park, Kensington, Seagate, Bergen Beach

Are these all in the same vicinity as Midwood? Which is the best area? How far of a commute are they into the city?

Windsor Terrace and Kensington are adjoining neighborhoods, nearer to Prospect Park. Mill Basin, Marine Park and Bergen Beach also adjoin.

Midwood is roughly between these two general areas. Sea Gate is all the way out at the western tip of Coney Island. (It's a private community--you need a resident to bring you in. Yeah, "private community" and "Brooklyn" are usually mutually exclusive terms. But not in this case!

I think that of all the areas you've listed, Midwood might be the single most desirable neighborhood. Possibly with Bergen Beach and Kensington/Windsor Terrace next.

The longest commute to Manhattan would be from Sea Gate. I happen to live in Midwood--you can get from Avenue M on the Q line to Herald Square in less than 45 minutes by subway.

There are two main shopping corridors in Midwood--one on Avenue J, and the other on Avenue M. I'd have to say that the majority of buildings in the area are houses. Apartments are scattered here and there, usually on the avenues (but there are some on the side streets). Probably the majority of Midwood's population is Jewish.

The area got written up in the NY Times a few years ago as one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city--although of course that depends on what you're looking for! If I had to give it a quick description, I'd say that it looks much more suburban than urban.

I would recommend Windsor & Kensington, closer to the City than Midwood & very desirable with beautiful Brownstones...
