This isn't meant to sound harsh, but I have read quite a few posts recently from people in the UK wanting to move over to NYC, where they clearly haven't thought about/known about/been aware of the visa issues! It's really not as simple as just deciding to move and finding a job.

This website from the US Embassy in London will tell you all about the different types of visas which are unfortunately, very hard to get in most cases:

It's worth looking at this before even asking which area to live in!!
