Where in Bushwick to move?
Simple question. My max rent is $1400 (so williamsburg is out of the question) and i'm looking for a two bedroom apartment. I know that the further west of Bushwick I go, the more 'ghetto' the area gets (East New York, Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, etc). So what area would you suggest would be good for a couple of young guys (19 and 20) to live in.
What are your honest opinions on Bushwick?

FYI, I think you meant the further east and Bushwick is nowhere near Crown Heights. But yeah, that's the rule of thumb. Head east and it gets worse. Bushwick bordering Ridgewood is fine.

Oops, yeah, thats what i meant. Anyways, would you consider the Dekalb station area an "ok" area?? Consider that i'm fairly young.

Someone clear this up for me please
I've been looking into two bedroom apartments (for my brother and I) in Bushwick ($1400) and most of these apartments are close to the JMZ lines (central, knickerbocker) or the Dekalb line and further east (which means the areas get mor ghetto). My question is: would it be more convinent (location, closer to williamsburg) and more comfortable (bigger apt.) if i look for a 3 bedrom for $2000 and sublet a room??? Do you think it'll be closer to manhattan in a more 'younger' area (we're 19 and 20) ???

That section is fine. South of Irving Av. it starts to get gritty. North of Wyckoff is the better section of the area.

I lived in Bushwick a while ago, before it was really starting to gentrify a bit. I did not have any problems, however, I kept to myself and was used to living in a city. Do you have "street smarts"? Are you coming from a large metropolitan area, or somewhere where you don't have to lock your doors?
And the area right by the Dekalb stop is fine.

I come from Mexico City, so yeah i guess i have some "street smarts" (acting like you belong, not drawing attention, etc.) Good to know that DeKalb stop is a safe area, i wouldn't want to go any further than DeKalb. Hopefully in a few years Bushwick will become a more Williamsburg-sy area.
