US Air flight 1549 crashes into Hudson river flying from Laguardia to Charlotte, NC. Plane is partially above water still. Westside highway shut down. People standing on wing of plane.
Reports: A bird hit the plane before going down (wow, hard to believe). Eyewitness says that it looked like a "controlled landing" because he knew it was going down.
I haven't heard of any fatalities. It looks as if there actually might be NO fatalities. Live pictures show people smiling while being taken to hospital.
A flock of seaguls (or geese) hit the plane 6 minutes after takeoff (confirmed...wow). Pilot new the plane would crash used the water way like a runway. Water temp. is 42 degrees (11 wind chill)
It was a bird strike with loss of both engines. The crew did an extraordinary job to ditch the plane in one piece, the A320 could have easily broke apart.
To justfarr1030, may I ask why you entitled this "Breaking news!!! Plane crashes in hudson river!!!" Fatalities or no fatalities, please do not put exclamation points in the same sentence as a plane crash. I hope you are not one of those fools who has a postcard of the WTC on fire and collapsing.
