I believe that there are things that don't get reported. But of course that makes them hard to verify if they don't even appear in local papers. I would think something like a post office having to be relocated because of a block fire would be pretty easy to verify. (I am taking a break from fact checking for awhile.)

But one thing that doesn't seem too accurate is that Astoria is somehow not connected well in terms of internet activity. Did I interpret this correctly? That seems a bit silly especially since the local Astorians online forum, which is probably considered a competing site so I won't mention the name, has 5000 members and has been in existence for 6 or 7 years. Also they have many active bloggers who write about food and local events and politics. In fact it's one of the most active, if not THE most active, neighborhood internet communties in all of NYC.

Have you tried calling the cops? While I personally do believe in God, I would hate for someone to invade my home and insist that I become an atheist.

And I guess one can safely assume that your narratives are intended to show that there aren't any blacks in Astoria as the God-fearing citizens there don't wish them to reside there...or am I missing your point? Thanks for any clarification.

We were turned down and were told by my roommate that the owner didn't rent to blacks. He said that many of the landlords were like that in the area. I was furious and wanted to sue! (I was told I didn't have enough proof.) We ended up moving to Inwood instead.
oh that is terrible, i am so sorry to hear that. you can see why i get fed up with these people a lot. i am not greek, my ex was greek, sense passed. he wasn't like that his last girl friend was black. years ago some white guys tried to attack my daughter, to rape her, she was 14 at the time. this black guy saw what was happening, he came to her aid right away, and rescued her from the goons. he has always been a friend of our family. he is the nicest guy. i am white and believe me i have heard snide remarks about blacks from whites. i just look at them and think how stupid they are. a couple years ago i saw more blacks around than i do today. i think they get fed up and leave astoria. i grew up in the 40s & 50s, in town in MA. there were no blacks, just all the nationalities that didn't get along. everyone lived in their part of town. we were a very divided town. the only time i saw blacks was when soldiers from fort devens were in whalom park. i admit i looked, and i thought how beautiful they are.

years ago one list i was on anti-terrorist, i guess i must have posted a few things, one person posted and told me, you don't like white people do you.

when Obama won i was so thrilled, i kept saying it was about time. it was bitter sweet for me, i wished my great-grand daughter were alive, so when she was older, she could tell me i remember that. i cried when we won, i cried because my great-grand daughter would never know, we have come a long way, and it wasn't easy.

they are now on the internet, that is why the old natives don't like it. they want what happens in Astoria to stay in astoria. go into the post office i am sure some one working there knows why they had to move there, into the old greek theater. that is on 31st. and at 23rd ave. i lost my carvel ice cream in that bombing. never got one back. i will tell you that crater looked like a crater on the moon. still puzzles me why no one knew for 2 days that we were in major blackout. but then we had no power, we couldn't tell anyone.
we did realize that if we had a major terrorists attack here, on con ed, no one would know. it was strange being cut off from the rest of the world like that.

to this day i thank the man, i never knew, that parked his car on 31st, and left all his doors open blasting his radio, so we could all listen. it was our one contact with the out side world. we were all gathered around his car.
