Hi! Longtime reader, first time poster.

OK so I moved to the NYC area this fall and am having difficulty finding a job (like a lot of other people). I won't go into specifics, I know moving here without employment is like the #1 no-no and all, but the situation was complicated.

So anyways, I'm thinking about looking into employment agencies/ temping which is something I have no experience in and am clueless about, can anyone offer advice or agencies to look into? There are so many and half the ones I see advertised seem like scams to me. I'm looking for jobs in entry level medical or scientific fields specifically, my previous job was as a chemical lab tech and I would prefer something similar, but really I'm not picky. I know any job is hard to come by these days. So yeah, where should I start?

Get the Sunday New York Times and look through the Help Wanted section. It used to be pretty large and had a list of all the agencies and what they specialized in.

Also, check the yellow pages for agencies as well.

These days the Help Wanted section has shrunk a lot but it's as good a place as any to start looking.

I have a friend who works for a temp agency in New York. But to be honest, lately, she isn't getting a lot of calls from them. She does does general office work for them. I'll look up the temp agency name and PM it to you in a bit.

Have you tried Craigslist at all?

Thanks for the input everyone.

I've been doing most of my searching through online ads, email, etc. Honestly hadn't picked up up an actual print newspaper in a while (i'm a child of the digital age!) But I'll give it a shot. A listing of agencies and their specialties is exactly what I was aiming for.

Also thanks for the info kingweasel I will check them out.
