Jasper03 is on a distinguished road
Call 311 and find out which HRA office is in your neighborhood. Go with eviction notice in hand and inquire about the "one shot deal"

They might pay up your arrears and utilities just this one time. If the total amount is less than 5k you don't have to pay it back.

The thing is that the deal will keep you from being kicked out for now but what will you do in the future? You don't have a job so it's inevitable that you be in the same predicament in a few more months. I guess it will give a you a few months to get it together...maybe find a new job and move somewhere cheaper?

It's good that NY still offers the one shot deal, because Southern California has totally done away with it. The reason I say Southern as opposed to just "California" is that California is broken up as Northern and Southern.

Northern California operates like NYC and the rest of the country. Southern California is like living in a third world country and not because of the latinos that live here either. Nobody wants to admit that people have been barely surviving here for YEARS, but don't know better. They actually believe this is the way to live. You'll meet people that have worked CVS or Rite Aid for 20 years or more as cashiers.

If you're destitute in los angeles, you can forget about any help if you're not elderly, sick, disabled, druggie (same as disabled) or have kids. NORTHERN Cali is quite different. I wish I lived there.

Yea, I lived in Southern Cali for 6 years. It's the worse place to be if you have little or no money. I also agree with the hole CVS and RiteAid situation, I mean there is nothing wrong with working there, hell i would work there as it's a nice and easy job but the fact is that they don't pay people enough to survive on there own. It's modern day slavery. This also applies to people who work in the supermarkets. As told to me by a former employer many people working at the Stater brothers supermarket would be on the food stamp programs. They would punch off of work then shop with there food stamps... That's why I don't shop there actually i don't like to shop at any place that cant take care of there workers.

Going back to the above poster, sorry to hear about your situation. Well since I don't know anything about your situation and because you could have some other untold issues that put you in this situation I would haft to agree that over all most Americans need to downsize there spending habits..

BTW, what kind of work do you do?????

Morphous, I was on the internet one nite for SIX HOURS just searching and searching for places that offered "rental assistance" or anything under that listing. Several places in NORTHERN CALI came up and I noticed that every other state in the union (including Hawaii) had their versions of rental help as well. I called "Tenants Together" in San Francisco to see if they had a sister organization in southern cali, he was quite sure they did. When he tried to do a search with me he was surprised to find NOTHING. He took my email and number, because there just HAD to be something.

A couple of days later he called and emailed me saying that he was STUNNED that there wasn't anything available. You should have heard the sound of his voice. He honestly had no idea, because the bay area has a variety of places to go to. He recommended a place called Jewish Family Services for an interest free loan. The only problem with them is that you need a co-signer that LIVES IN CALIFORNIA. It also defeats the purpose of ONE TIME HELP. If the person is struggling then more than likely they can't pay any money back to anyone.

If people only knew how Southern Californians and especially those that live in the Los Angeles area REALLY lived they'd be shocked. It's just a constant struggle to stay alive and keep a roof over your head. Most people have two or three jobs because the wages are ridiculously low. The good paying jobs are taken up by people that will NEVER, EVER LEAVE, except through retirement, relocation or death. I'm NOT making this up.

The other half is on a "disability" of some kind. They have to actually hire attorneys to be able to claim it. The attorneys ALWAYS get a kickback of some sort when you get approved, because they don't take cases that won't.

People on this forum talk about crime in NYC. Well, at least NYPD got most of it under control. The entire western half of the united states is basically a wasteland of out of control gangs and lawlessness. I call Southern California the Afghanistan of the US. Texas, Arizona and New Mexico aren't that far behind. All those states that hover near the Mexican border are basically full of outlaws and major corruption by law enforcement. Again, it's NOT a latino thing. These criminals cross all racial lines. People in this part of the country are "different". You won't know what I'm talking about unless you LIVE HERE for awhile.

New York City is NOT THAT BAD. Just watch your back when you're walking the streets and you'll be fine. Also, since 9/11 there are cameras EVERYWHERE. It's very hard for a criminal to get away with a street crime nowadays and not be caught.

Okay, I'm done with my rant.

To the OP: Go apply for FULL WELFARE, then they'll pay your rent for the months you're behind. You'll also be approved for emergency foodstamps and medicaid. PLEASE DON'T ACT PROUD. If you ain't got it, then you ain't got it, but YOUR TAX DOLLARS PAID INTO THE SYSTEM FOR THE EVENTUALITY THAT YOU WILL NEED IT. USE IT!

Somewhere along the line the government duped the public into believing that people who dip into welfare aid are lazy. As you'll see in the coming months, when people's unemployment benefits run out YOU WILL NOT BE ALONE. Check your "Pride" at the door.

Good luck!!

Yup, I know all about what you are talking about.... And guess what, there are numerous pockets in L.A and Orange county that are full of super rich people who drive Ferraris and BMWs who have no idea what the hell you and I are talking about because they are sheltered from it all...lol

Its kind of disgusting if you ask me, say in Hollywood hills you could say one old person living in a 15 thousand square foot home spoiled to death and at the same time 15 thousand people who are homeless or are on the verge of becoming homeless in the general proximity.

You see this is why I hate the American system, for every person that "makes it" you have thousands of people that don't becasue they are supporting the life of the person who "made it."

More or less just put the odds in your favor if you can and you do that by working for yourself. Mod cut language you can start a cleaning business out the trunk of your car and do quite well. Rich people will always have money and will always have needs so take advantage of the opportunity.

As far as this is concerned when I use to live in Pomona, Ca and I did not have my business at the time and I remember when I was on Holt Ave at the US GOv office trying to get money but eventuality I backed out of it.
I said to myself that I'm a hard working young man who is smart and that there has to be something that I can do to make money instead of relying on the U.S Gov. I eventually got a job with full benefits and made 23 bucks an hour.

More or less, I hate the U.S gov, all they do is take from us and manipulate us and start wars. Whenever you rely on somebody they can control you. Any handout from the U.S gov is just a way to get you to rely on them; they don't do it because they care about you becasue if they did care they would have troops on the border, abolish taxes, and have money that was backed by gold which then would create a country that is stable and you had the means to take care of yourself.

If you haft to use food stamps and so forth I would use it as a LAST resource in a extreme emergency. What about family, what about friends, what about hauling stuff to the junkyard to make extra cash.. Many people forget that our ancestors REFUSED to get help from the U.S Gov and did what they could for themselves, this hast to come back or we are doomed as nation.

Morphous, I do get what you're saying - BELIEVE ME, I DO.

I, myself am heading to the welfare office this week AND THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT! Lord knows I didn't want to, because I agree that when it comes to the government and their "help" they are up your a$$ like nothing else. I signed up for Cali unemployment this week and they want information going back EIGHTEEN MONTHS! It used to be 15. I am NOT looking forward to this, because I have no idea if I'll even be approved.

I have been sending resumes, signing up with temp agencies, applying to multiple retail establishments only to have everything sink in a blackhole.

I am NOT proud. All "pride" will get me is a bed in a homeless shelter and soup kitchen meals.

Our ancestors didn't want the stigma of being on the county. It was an affront to their pride and self esteem. Thankfully, my self-esteem is in tact and pride is something I got rid of along time ago. Also, as far as friends and family helping me, well, I've exhausted that venue and the economy has affected them as well.
