By the way, I drive so parking is a concern but none of these struck me as areas that are hard to find parking. I work in Manhattan so I do need to be close to transportation.

See. Your instincts about further North were right.

Yes, I would draw a line straight across Allerton from Bronx Park East all the way over to 95 and not go above ... and try to go lower, especially the further east you go.And don't get too close to the Pelham Parkway Houses although as I said it is one of the best projects in the whole city and relatively tame.

If I had been looking for a house,I would have concentrated my search in the area where the Pelham Parkway neighborhood and Morris Park meet, right around the Morris Park #5 station. There are some nice houses in there along with a fair number of apartment buildings ( rentals, coops and condos). It is very easy walking distance to the 5 and the 2( one goes east side, the other west side) and you are still very close walking to all the stores ,restaurants, banks, etc on White Plains Rd,Morris Park Ave and Williamsbridge Rd .You are also close to the park(botanical garden and zoo) and there is the bx 12 bus which goes through the park and over to Fordham Rd and Little Italy in about 5 minutes. There is also a great community center on Pelham Parkway near there which has a gym and lots of other activities and cultural events.

It is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the whole city and very little crime.Relatively unknown and underrated if you ask me.

The only area where there is a parking problem is where I live because there are many more people living in all the big apartment buildings.

There is another nice pocket bounded by Pelham Parkway on the South, the Park on the West,Waring or Allerton on the North and White Plai8ns Road on the East.

Some people call this Bronxdale but it really is the northern part of Pelham Parkway

It's known as Bronxdale. Allerton is the northern boundary, and the eastern boundary is either Williamsbridge Rd or Laconia Av.

Blue,
I just realized that with the lines drawn the way you said hhe house I saw on Wilson Ave is actually north of Allerton avenue. (Bummer) I just realized, however, some of the other houses I like are indeed north of Allerton but aren't close to any PJs that I can know off. Any thoughts on Givan,Burke, Mickle, Fish, Oakley, Fenton ave? (that whole strip, north of Gun Hill and south of Boston Rd.) I also took at the area you suggested and I love it, I don't know if there is anything in my price range but I wil keep looking. By the way is that 10469 or 10461?

I am not totally familiar with each little area that far up so I can't say for sure.I am sure that there are ok blocks and pockets up there but just be extra careful and examine the areas around the perimeter.

There are other projects in the North Bronx like Edenwald Houses and Boston-Secor Houses where there are a lot of problems and gangs from each that get into problems with each other.I have also heard that there are a lot of problems that spill out of coop city . You might find a nice little enclave but keep your eyes open... and realize that you might be "surrounded" to some extent.

A good thing might be to look at crime statistics. The northern section of this area where you are looking is the 47th precinct, the more southern area around Morris Park,Pelham Parkway and Pelham Gardens is the 49th.You will see how all of the differences translate into daily life.Go to the NYPD site.

I looked it up and its hard to tell because both Precincts cover such a large area. For example 47th covers Parts of Woodlawn, Wakefield, Baychester, ect. Is actually a bit hard to tell where one ends and the other begins, I'm going to try to obtain a map for them.
They both seem OK actually, 49th precinct was better though.

Default Allerton, Da Bronx

I am in Allerton everyday and it's OK. It has its problems but compared to other parts of the Bronx, it is decent.

PROS:
- Diversity
- Tight established community
- 2,5 train (5 train express rush hours!)

CONS:
- Traffic police/ meter maids are like hawks here
- Littering
- Robberies

Thanks BXGEAR
Where in Allerton are you? The pros you mentioned are good and the cons aren't as bad, until you said Robberies , what kind of robberies ??? (Since I'm buying a house, don't want to have break-ins, etc).
