Is it safe in South Central Harlem around West 118th Street and Lenox Ave? (home)

Hi all!! I plan to take a job that is located in Harlem on West 118th street between Lenox Ave/Malcolm X Blvd and 5th ave. the job i am going for usually starts at 8am and ends at 4 pm, with occasion late nights. Is the area safe for a female? i also have to take the 2/3 train. Thanks a lot!!!

I live about 6 blocks south of there and frequently come home late without any problems. I understand that the area north of where I live does get rough sometimes, however.

My initial reaction is that you won't have a problem, especially between the hours of 8 and 4. I wouldn't wander around there (you're probably still across from the projects at 118th) after midnight, but even then you'll probably still be ok. Just be smart, as you have to be anywhere.

Those hours you should be fine. Be careful at night though (late night/early morning hours).

thanks for the advice! I plan to get a teaching job there so i just want to make sure it is safe for me to commute to and from.

you might servive the streets in the day time< the worst job is a teaher in nyc< is like you are a prison gaurd HELL NO STAY PUT!
