Even if they're visiting family in the Bronx and New Rochelle they still won't need a car. Take the train. Much easier than driving around and getting lost. Who needs the stress.

The Embassy Suites in Lower Manhattan is a little out of the way as compared to many of the other hotels in the city. It's convenient for the Financial District, and you're not terribly far from the subway lines to connect to the rest of the city, but it will be a few minutes' walk. I know people who have stayed there and had no complaints at all, save for it being a little off the beaten track, and it's on par with other Embassy Suites around the country. If you're an HHonors member, check into the Doubletree at Times Square as well, to compare rates, unless you want to be in Lower Manhattan.

My favorite hotel when staying in NY has always been the Warwick. They have great one bedroom suites and it is in a fairly good location. Also, I don't think it is outrageously expensive (well for NYC at least).

I've had good luck with the Belvedere in/near the theatre district-don't know about parking there though.
