Hotels in Manhattan
Hi folks. My sister, her husband, and their teenaged daughter are planning a visit to NYC in June. How much can they expect to pay for a hotel room--preferably a suite--at a reasonable rate? What would be the least amount they could expect to pay? Ditto for a room, which would not be ideal for a family of three but "ok." Do you know of any hotels in Manhattan with reasonable rates that are located in relatively safe neighborhoods with on-site parking or easy access to parking? They will be renting a car. Easy access to the trains (Midtown, the Village, etc.) might also be helpful. You never know. They might want to try the trains once they discover that the parking situation can be quite a challenge in NYC. Can you offer some specific suggestions, meaning actual hotel names and locations?
Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thank you so much.

A 1BR suite? The Doubletree in Times Square has 1BR suites (very small) for $419/night. The LR has a pull out couch. I wouldn't suggest renting a car. They'll spend at least $30/day++ to park it... if they're going to multiple locations, more like $70/day. The subway is safe, or just have them take cabs.
If by suite you mean 2BR, the cost is going to be very high, and the selection very limited.

For parking, I would suggest the Sheraton Manhattan on 51st & 7th, or the Hilton New York on 6th. They both have doubles and suites, and covered parking for a fee, of course. Suites are usually north of $500/night, depending upon size and floor. They are large hotels, and the regular double rate should be under $300/night.

Why rent a car in Manhattan? The hotel, if it has parking at all, will charge dearly for it. Then you have to find parking once you leave the hotel, which is not easy and also expensive. Most people who have cars in Manhattan only use them to leave Manhattan. They take cabs or the train otherwise.

The Beacon Hotel on 79th and Broadway has suites for about 400/night. It just went up from 300/night, which I thought was the deal of the century. We stay there with a family of four, two full size beds in the bedroom and a pull out couch in the living room, there's a little kitchen and a fantastic grocery store across the street so it's easy to stock up.
There's a garage around the corner but there's absolutely no reason to rent a car in Manhattan. You rent a car to get OUT of Manhattan!

a helluva lot less than last year! hotels are struggling with occupancy. shop around and if you book a reservation now plan on changing it as you get closer to your dates.

Thanks, everyone. This is all very helpful. Btw, it turns out that they won't be confining their visit to Manhattan. They plan to also visit family members in the Bronx and in New Rochelle.
Please keep the suggestions coming.

Any good hotels in the outer boroughs--again with reasonable rates, suites, and parking? Btw, in these "interesting times" economically, reasonable does not necessarily mean a bargain. By reasonable I mean within the range of what can be expected given the quality of the room, accommodations, service, location, yadda yadda.

Actually, since they're going to be going to New Rochelle and The Bronx, why not consider Lower Westchester? You can get a much better rate in Westchester, and many hotels have parking that's complementary.
There's a Doubletree in Tarrytown, as well as the all suite Spring Hill by Marriott, both of which will likely be under $200/night. The Spring Hill should have a shuttle service to the train as well, so they do not have to pay to park at Tarrytown. And, in White Plains, there's a Crowne Plaza and Ritz Carlton. There's also an all suite Residence Inn in White Plains, which as another Marriott brand has the usual free parking, etc. It's only about a block from the train, and you can get a reasonable (under $200/night) rate there.
