There are people I know who live in Kew Gardens and don't own a car. If you live within walking of Union Turnpike where you get the E,F, that's even better. Plus there's an LIRR stop in K.G. also. The area has many beautiful homes, buildings, etc., and is a lot quieter than some parts of Forest Hills. You also have lovely Forest Park for you and your family. Rents, etc., are a little cheaper too than in Forest Hills

It's a pretty safe area and I'd recommend it without hesitation for you, but look around first as even the best part of any area can have a few sketchy blocks.

Rego Park north of Queens Blvd. is one of the safest areas in Queens.

I have lived in RP for 30 years. It is by no means a crime infested neighborhood. I feel as safe as any other NY neighborhood.
