Default Metrocards online?

Hi everyone,

This may sound like an odd question, but I am a NYC resident who has moved out of state for a short time and am living in NC currently. My parents are going to be visiting the city for the first time and I am helpingt to arrange their trip since I know parts of the city pretty well. My parents are not at all seasoned travelers and I'd like to get as much stuff as possible scheduled, arranged, and paid for ahead of time. One thing I'm having trouble finding is a place to buy metrocards for the subway online. Do they sell them anywhere online or out of the city? I know it wouldn't seem to be difficult to just have them buy a metrocard in the station when they get there but my parents are from a small town and pretty intimidated by the big city, so I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I can get this ordered ahead of time. Can anyone help out?

Thanks,
Luke

Unfortunately, they are not currently sold online. I think that the MTA might do it on their own site in the future, since they used to have a vendor sell them, but no more.

If you don't want to send them to buy at a machine, send them to a bank, grocery store, even some hotels that sell the Metrocard. Check this link to find a location: MTA - MetroCard

Unfortunately, I don't think you can purchase Metro Cards online, but they should be readily available at whatever location your parents plan to arrive.
