No, don't look at anything on wikipedia. Nothing posted there has to be verified. It always amazes me that people cite them as authoritative. It's at the other end of the spectrum from authoritative.

Seriously I don't care if the stats are false, if some people feels like crime should be like it was in 2004 or 2005. It was safer back then for me and for a lot of people back then, than some years back. If the city is indeed like 2004 or 2005 then I still think the city is in a safer mode. Now when the city goes back to the early 90's then we have some serious problems. So are some people here still going to go on with this crime thing? Get back to me when NYC really is a dangerous city to live for most people like they experience back in the 70s to the early 90's. OK. You can complain all you want.

I can agree with that. New York City today is most definitely not New York City 1973--nor is it likely to revert. But you know how it is: we live in the complaining capital of the United States, and people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

who's complaining? who said its like the 70's? all im saying is that the stats are wrong. i wouldn't care one way or another if crime rose like the 70's, 80's, or 90's, its when people lie about it and pretend that their heroes for stopping crime that bothers me. fred, you made a post just yesterday on a thread called "New Rasmussen Poll Indicates Voters Liked George W. Bush More" where you quote mark twain saying you didnt believe stats. why am i wrong for not believing statistics but your not?

well said Fred and cyrus! GDK we agree that you should not be going by stats alone..and that theya re not 100% correct...but we should also agree that they are not 100% lies or madeup either. The real issue is, how do you feel when you walk home at night? As a resident of Woodstock, I can tell you I feel GREAT, as do my 2 young female Tenants that recently moved in to the building. They are surprised at how quiet the area is considering how dense it is (lots of housing projects), and they are equally surprised at how safe they feel. Nevermind the fact that they are ecstatic about all the new trees in the area and the new bike lanes....and THAT speaks much more than any stat....

Just to add to the thread.

The reason I think that the NYPD is skewing stats is because the stats dont follow reality. With that I mean that go anywhere in the Bronx, and visually things look the exact same way they did 10-12 years ago. The only difference is that there is less graffiti, vacant lots, and there is new construction. But the drug dealers are still in their corners, the stick up kids are still there waiting to rob someone, gang members are still flagging their colors etc etc.

Recently I been to many bad areas of the Bronx. Yesterday I was on W Burnside ave and Loring place in Morris Heights, going into the bodega to buy some juice. They installed a police tower that comes equipped with cameras and sometimes watchmen, right on that corner. I only seen this once before and I think it was in Southern BLVD and the 150's somewhere. But wouldn't you know it, there were about 9 African American and Puerto Rican men around the entrance. I was intimidated as heck because they were all grillin me. And once inside I could smell the weed and the liqour all over the store. I came out just fine, but it made me want to question the crime stats. A few years back, things where "worse" in terms of crime but why? To me things look worse now. Unless the criminals have gone soft. But my eyes dont decieve me. And when I think of all the bad areas just that I been too in the Bronx......

W Burnside ave from Sedgwick to University
E 194th street from Valentine to Decatur
W 183rd street from Aqueduct to Jerome
E Kingsbridge rd from Jerome to Grand Concourse
E 184th and Thebout
E 183rd from Jerome to Valentine
E 180th and Hughes
E 170th and Washington Ave
W Fordham rd and Andrews ave
190th and Davidson
W 167th and Anderson
Southern Blvd and Freeman st
E 220's and White Plains road
Stratford and Westchester ave

and on and on and on.....these places are hell holes....and that's from where I been too. I haven't even named others that are sketchy. So with all these streets and the areas sorrounding them, absolutely shot, I do not believe the Bronx has about 130 homicides. There are many robberies that people dont report for fear due to retaliation.

There are so many bad areas here. SO MANY! It's mind boggling the way the stats are.

I take a look around and laugh at the reported crimes.

I have to let it all out

Think about all the bad areas in Mott Haven, Morrisania, Melrose, Hunts Point, Soundview, Highbridge, Concourse, Tremont, East Tremont, Morris Heights, University Heights, Fordham, Fordham Bedford, West Farms.......

Then think of the bad "blocks" in Bedford Park, Norwood, Wakefied, Williamsbridge, Castle Hill, Morris Park etc

Its an overwhelming amount. I just think about it and it drives me nuts. I want the truth.
