Default How Similar are New York City and Philadelphia?

Just curious as to how many New Yorkers feel their city is similar to Philadelphia.

Not at all similar. I've been to both more times than I can count and they are not similar as much as people on here make them out to be. Manhattan is like fifty downtown Phillies. How would that be similar. The boroughs are far different from Philadelphia...

Philadelphia has only one best area and that is in the center. Everything else is just boring and ugly. Even that overrated Manayunk neighborhood with just a main street with nice stores and restaurants but that is it. The rest of the neighborhood is boring, nothing to do or see. Crime in the center (the best area) is also much higher than any of the best neighborhoods in Manhattan. There are more places and interesting neighborhoods to live and visit in NYC. Public transportation is full of ghetto unattractive people and always seems late. NYC has way more things to do, and more things for free. But like I said, Philadelphia is bless to have that Center City full of activity. So no NYC and Philadelphia are not that similar.

Anyway I used to live there for more than 15 years and go back a lot. My family still lives there.

Philly is like an outerboro in terms of socio-econo demographics,

I've lived in both metro areas in new jersey and I'd have to say Very Similar in relation to the rest of America as a whole.

philly is more sprawled brotherly and historical while nyc more classy diverse and fit
but both are very aged, urban, fast paced

Oh u made me think of how else they're similar... Both center city and manhattan are surrounded by the rest on 3 of 4 sides

What other city fits nyc as "Like Twins" ? Beijing? Chicago? It's a trick question that's why noone chooses it.

It's funny how people from Philadelphia seem to always be drawing parallels with New York and trying to prove that Philadelphia is "just like " NY while people from Boston go out of their way to point out the differences and firmly believe that Boston is a much better place because of the differences.

Just an observation.

I think Philly is somewhat similar. Honestly I've never been and I'm just going off what I've heard through family, co-workers, friends, etc. I've heard people compare it to Queens and Brooklyn.
