Anyone else find it disturbing that this family brags about manipulating it's income to keep it below the $175,000 threshold so it can keep this apartment stabilized and only pay 2,800/mo ? They own multiple restaurants and probably really make millions .Maybe the income is diverted to a trust or something so they keep it under the limit.
Surprising they are so public about their situation.
It would be great if this story leads to an investigation that results in their removal from the apt or a rent increase to the market rate.
The rent laws were not designed to protect people like this.

No it is not fair but I think it is one of the extremes in the Rent Stab category. They probably divert most of their profits back into their business so it is not counted as individual or household income.

No matter how disturbing it is, they are under complete protection of the rent regulation laws. That's why they can be so public about it.
BTW, the income manipulation will soon become easier for them and others like them. The state legislature is about to raise the allowed income to a quarter million.

This is no different than the baby mamas who have a boatload of illegitimate kids and leech off the welfare system for years on end while having one male after the next living with them.

Yeah, I was a little disturbed by the article, too. So we're supposed to applaud this family because they let aspiring models sleep on the floor? That is their contribution to society?

There will be no investigation. No NYC politician would dare be seen forcing a tenant out of rent stabilization.
Politics is why we have senseless laws that protect tenants like this.
